Tempered Glass Above Door

Glass in walls enclosing stairway landings or within 5 feet of the bottom and top of stairways where the bottom edge of the glass is less than 60 above a walking surface you can select tempered glass on any of the windows you order from discount door and window.

Tempered glass above door.

All doors manufactured since 1974 have tempered glass. Shower base clear 3 8 in. If you are installing windows within 2 feet of a door and lower than 5 feet from the ground you need tempered glass in the windows even though these might be higher than 18 inches from the ground.

The tempering process changes the properties of the glass so that if it should be broken it crumbles into dull cubes to minimize any injury. There are exceptions allowed for decorative glass in windows also along with the addition of a sturdy rail in front of the glass and outboard panes of insulating glass in a high location.
